Glen Riethmuller

research scientist at department of primary industries and regional development
I have more than 34 years experience in agricultural research on cereal and pulse crops in Western Australia. I am originally from a “black soil” farm near Toowoomba, Qld where I completed my Ag. Engineering degree. I moved to the USA to do a masters degree in Ag. Engineering and now I’m working in Merredin on farm machinery research. Currently I am the national chair of the Society for Engineering in Agriculture of Engineers Australia. I am currently working in the soils and field research areas but still keep an interest in weed competition, detection and control. Machinery for ameliorating subsoils is a current area where the cost is high in terms of pulling force, power and fuel consumption for moving topsoil and ameliorants into the subsoil. I feel controlled traffic machinery will be the way of the future to protect and improve the wheatbelt soils while giving an economic response.
