Regional Soil Coordinator

The Regional Soil Coordinator (RSC) works across all levels of industry to understand stakeholder needs and engage with regional and national networks to build the knowledge base and capacity in soil management. The RSC aims to help inform, protect and develop healthy soils within agricultural systems. 

Activities

Connect farmers with strong research capability 

Provide networks to connect people, collaborate and share research outcomes. 

Contribute to an increasing capability of improved soil management.  

integrating soil knowledge 

Support groups throughout the regions in their soil research, development and extension activities. 

access to soil information

Understand local soil issues and extension needs. 

Identify and promote soil information to support best management practices.

National connections

Operate as a conduit between the regions and the Commonwealth on soil. 

Support the implementation of the National Soil Strategy & Action Plan.

Regional Soil Coordinators around Australia

A network of Regional Soil Coordinators are situated across the country to support the agricultural industries in their local area. Each Regional Soil Coordinator is linked with the Drought Hub for the area. The Regional Soil Coordinators are members of the Smart Soils National Community of Practice convened by Soil Science Australia.

The Regional Soil Coordinator works with industry partners to develop and compile independent, evidence-based soil information and resources. Content addresses regional priorities, across agricultural industries and includes management guidance from farmers and industry alike.
