PROJECTS

GRDC Improving crop nutrition through extension in the Western Region

This project will provide access to new and fundamental knowledge on soil and nutrition to increase the adoption of best management practices.

Supporting continued learning for the grains industry in soil and plant nutrition

Online learning content to support decision making by growers and industry

Share soil resources and extend learning through interactive workshops

Providing networks to connect people, collaborate and share knowledge

activities

connect farmers with strong research capability

Promote understanding of the value and benefits of soil testing, integrating soil concepts and making better management decisions on-farm through an interactive workshop series.

Integrating soil knowledge

Integrate soil knowledge into learning modules to set up participants to i) correctly plant and conduct soil testing, ii) understand soil-plant-nutrient interactions based on soil tests and iii) understand options for best management practice and economics for N, P and K application.

Soil modules

Content to cover soil morphology, characteristics, description, chemistry, soil testing requirements, soil processes driving nutrient supply (including biology), plant uptake of nutrients, plant and soil interactions, efficiency of use and economics - with a focus on nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K).

workshops

Developing a seasonally relevant workshop series, to support informed decision-making prior to harvest, prior to sowing and in-crop. Integrated knowledge and access to regional capacity and experts.

FUNDING PARTNERS

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is funding this investment (UMU2411-003SAX) with in-kind funding support from Murdoch University.

The project is led by SoilsWest Murdoch University.

Collaborating partners

This project will look to develop and build on networks and partnerships to enable new research outcomes to be captured and strengthen industry and grower group links to develop delivery pathways.
