Murdoch University-CSIRO Innovation Research Fellow
Lecturer
Research fellow Tona Sanchez-Palacios

My background

I am a research scientist with a background in plant physiology. I have a broad interest in the innovation and testing of novel stimulants that improve plant productivity, in combination with conventional fertilisers.

Projects

Key expertise

Crop physiology, crop mineral nutrition, metal tolerance mechanism in plants, use of stimulants for crop production and grain nutrition, synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence microscopy, zinc isotope tracing techniques, foliar fertilisers

Qualifications

The MU-CSIRO Innovation Research Fellowship at the Food Futures Institute, Murdoch University, is a position focused on producing high-yield, nutrient-rich crops.

With over seven years’ experience in crop nutrition, my research involves developing and testing novel bio-stimulants to enhance crop performance.

I have held a post-doctoral position at The University of Melbourne (Melbourne, Australia), The Institute of Applied Ecology (Canberra, Australia), Food Futures Institute and the Australian Synchrotron (Perth-Melbourne, Australia).

I was born in Mexico and I have a PhD in plant science from The University of Melbourne, a bachelor’s degree in biology from the Autonomous University of Mexico, with honours from The Centre for Scientific Research and Higher Education of The National Council for Science and Technology of Mexico.
